ABUJA, Federal Republic of Nigeria. The Senate committee on works has uncovered the non remittance of N700bn being revenue accruing to the Federal Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA) by the Petroleum Products Price Regulatory Agency (PPPRA) since 2007.
This was dislosed yesterday while the committee engaged the PPPRA and FERMA who were at the Senate to explain the workings of their agencies.
While responding to questions by the senators , the representative of PPPRA, director of operation, Mr Victor Shidok who could not give a satisfactory explanation, the committee discovered that the PPPRA has not remitted any money since 2007.
This was sequel to a revelation by the acting managing director of FERMA, Engr Peter Odey who raised the alarm that the agency had not received any kobo from PPPRA since 2007.
He added that this has hampered the smooth operation of the agency in carry out its mandate.
Speaking, Sen Barnabas Gemade ( Benue North West) who expressed shock that the PPPRA could not pay the statutory 5 percent to FERMA wondered why it paid N3tr worth of subsidy on un executed contracts. The Senate committee , however mandated the PPPRA to remit to FERMA N700bn to enable it fix Nigerian roads.
