Court To Rule On Kanu’s Bail Application Friday

ABUJA, Federal Republic of Nigeria. (Unic Press UK) — Next Friday, Justice James Tsoho of a Federal High Court in Abuja will make a ruling on a bail application that was filed by Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader and founder of Radio Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu.

Kanu has been in the custody of Nigeria’s law enforcing agencies since 14 October 2015, when he was arrested.

On 19 October 2015, Kanu was arraigned on offences said to be contrary to Section 97 (a) and (b) and 397 of the Penal Code:

  • Criminal conspiracy
  • Managing and belonging to an unlawful society
  • Criminal intimidation

The Nigerian government has refused to release Kanu despite a court ruling on 17 December 2015 by Justice Adeniyi Ademola of a Federal High Court in Abuja, which orderd that he should be released having been held in custody for circa two months’ without any formal charges filed against him.

Kanu is presently detained at Kuje prison in Abuja.
