PHARR, TEXAS, United States. U.S. Customs and Boarder Protection officials intercepted a shipment of more than one ton of marijuana — disguised as carrots, reports CBS Dallas-Fort Worth.
The drug-filled, 2,800 orange, carrot-shaped packages carried an estimated street value of $499,000, according to agents.
The half-million dollars’ worth of drugs were mixed in with a commercial shipment of fresh carrots, according to the station. The bust happened Sunday after agents halted a tractor-trailer near the Texas-Mexico boarder.
“Once again, drug smuggling organizations have demonstrated their creativity in attempting to smuggle large quantities of narcotics across the U.S./Mexico border,” an official told Dallas-Fort Worth. “Our officers are always ready to meet those challenges and remain vigilant towards any type of illicit activities.”
This case is reportedly still under investigation by agents with Homeland Security Investigations.
