Ondo State Gov Denies Lodging Bailout Fund In Fixed Account

AKURE, Federal Republic of Nigeria. Ondo state Governor, Dr Olusegun Mimiko, has debunked the allegation that the bail-out fund received by the state has been lodged in a fixed account.

Mimiko, who denied the allegation when he addressed accounting officers and public servants on grade level 13 and above in the state public service during a meeting in Akure, at the weekend, said the money, was intact.

He also assured residents of the state that his government would continue to prioritise the welfare of its workers.

Against the background of rumours that the state government had lodged the money in a fixed deposit account, Mimiko said the bailout money could not have been put in a fixed account because it was a loan that would be deducted from the state’s allocation, and it would be unreasonable to fix such money.

He added that any bank caught in such act would be duly sanctioned by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

The Governor explained that the state executive council gave approval for the payment of July and August salaries on Monday before the payment preparation was disrupted and strike action called by the workers’ union leaders.

Mimiko, who advised public servants to always verify the truth and maintain a minimum level of responsibility before decision-taking, assured that his administration would always promote the welfare of the workers.
