‘Poor Power Supply, MANs Greatest Problem’

APAPA, Federal Republic of Nigeria. The Manufacturers Association of Nigeria has expressed serious worry over Nigeria’s power supply situation, especially under the new government.

The President of MAN, Dr. Frank Udemba, and the Chairman, Apapa branch of MAN, Mr. Babatunde Odunayo, stated this during a business luncheon of the Apapa branch of the association on Thursday.

Odunayo said the theme of the luncheon, ‘Power supply to the Nigerian Manufacturing Sector under a new political dispensation – which way forward,’ was apt, because its main objective was to engage power technocrats in order to gain an understanding into power supply delivery to the sector.

He said, “It is a well-established fact that inadequate infrastructure, especially power, remains the biggest problem facing manufacturers today.”

Odunayo added that inadequate infrastructure was also one of the challenges facing the association.

“It is a well-established fact that of the gamut of challenges besetting manufacturing operations in our dear country, power supply constitutes the greatest (challenge), as it accounts for between 30 and 40 per cent of production overheads,” he said.

Also, Udemba said the advent of a new administration had ushered in an opportunity to bring in fresh ideas into the power supply equation.

He said efforts to secure viable power supply were uppermost in the minds of manufacturers, especially with the coming of the new government.
