Group Faults Bribery Allegation Against CBN Gov Emefiele

ABUJA, Federal Republic of Nigeria. Coalition of Civil Society Groups (CCSG) has disassociated itself from a proposed protest and what it has described as media blackmail against the Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, and Governor of Kaduna State, Malam Nasir el-Rufai, over an alleged N200 million bribe.

According to the CCSG, Arewa Youth Movement for Good Governance (AYMGG) had in a recent magazine publication accused Emiefele of bribing el-Rufai with the sum of N200 million for the latter to help persuade President Muhammadu Buhari to retain the CBN governor in office.

CCSG, in the statement signed by its National President, Comrade Etuk Bassey Williams, cautioned Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) against allowing themselves to be used for blackmailing high ranking citizens in the country.

According to Williams, the coalition has since discovered that the allegation was ill-motivated and aimed at settling political scores.
