Chelsea FC suspend three supporters over racist incident in Paris

LONDON, United Kingdom. Chelsea Football Club has announced that it is suspending three people from Stamford Bridge.

The message on Chelsea website reads: “Chelsea Football Club has announced that it is suspending three people from Stamford Bridge as a result of investigations into the incident on the Paris Metro on Tuesday [February 17, 2015] evening.” The incident happened few minutes to the UEFA Champions League game between Chelsea FC and Paris St-Germain which Chelsea drew 1-1 with Paris St-Germain.

If it is deemed there is sufficient evidence of their involvement in the incident, the club will issue banning orders for life.

We have received substantial information to date following our witness appeal and we are grateful to the many Chelsea supporters who have provided information so far.

Our investigations are on-going and we would request any further information is sent to customer.services@chelseafc.com.

We also continue to cooperate fully with the Metropolitan and Paris police forces who lead the ongoing criminal investigation.

The Metropolitan Police said earlier that it will examine the CCTV footage to know if football banning orders could apply.

Several media organisation have published CCTV footage of the commuter trying to board a metro train at Richelieu-Drouot station; the footage seem to show a group of men shouting and pushing the commuter away as he repeatedly tried to step into the train.

It is believed that Chelsea fans were chanting: “We’re racist, we’re racist, and that’s the way we like it… Where were you in World War Two?”

Paul Nolan who filmed the incident, said: “He was obviously completely shocked when they pushed him off.
