Nigeria’s Acting Inspector General Of Police Decentralizes Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS)

Unic Press UK: The Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) has been decentralized by Nigeria’s acting Inspector-General of Police, Abubakar Mohammed Adamu, after a meeting Monday with some of the top police officers, the News Agency of Nigeria reports.

The recent change is that the police commissioners of the states of the federation would take charge of the Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) in the state level, while the squad’s unit in the Police force headquarters would be supervised by the Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG) in-charge of Force Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Department (FCIID). The police commissioners and the DIG would be liable for any professional misconduct of SARS under their command.

Further reorganization of the Nigeria Police includes a kibosh of the Special Investigation Panel (SIP) and Special Tactical Squad (STS) and other quasi-investigation and operational units of the force; while a reorganization of the Police Mobile Force (PMF), Counterterrorism unit and Special Protection Unit (SPU) would follow.
