Unic Press UK: Many migrants fleeing war-torn Libya have refused to disembark from a merchant ship in Misrata port, the Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) has said on Twitter.
“The level of desperation is reaching a new low among #refugees and #migrants pushed back to #Libya by #EU policies. 93 shipwreck survivors returned to Libyan shores by a cargo ship on Saturday are refusing to disembark in #Misrata port.”
In one case, a migrant told the MSF that he would rather die on the cargo ship than submit to be transferred to a medical facility in Libya.
Highlighting the dire situation further, the Médecins Sans Frontières Head of Mission in Libya, Julien Raickman said:
“It’s a shame that once again the only response given to people in search of safety is prolonged arbitrary detention in the country they desperately attempt to leave”.
