Buhari School Certificate: WAEC Steps In With Attestation Of WASC Result

Unic Press UK: President Muhammadu Buhari is now in receipt of a certificate from the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) with regard to a 1961 West African School Certificate (WASC) Examination, which he claims he wrote.

The certificate serves the purpose of attesting and confirming the president’s 1961 WASC result.

In a statement Friday, the Special Adviser to the President (Media & Publicity), Femi Adesina said that the certificate was presented to President Buhari in Aso Rock, Abuja, by a delegation of WAEC top officials led by its registrar, Dr Iyi Uwadiae.

Uwadiae said: ”We don’t issue certificates twice but we can issue attestations or duplicate copy of the certificate. Whoever sat for WASC exams in whatever year, we have the records in our database, and Mr President, we have the records of the examinations you sat in 1961. We have the attestation of results which we issue to candidates who lost their certificates and confirmation of results.’’

In his remarks, President Buhari expressed his delight at receiving a certificate. He added that it would not have been possible for him to attend the Defence Services Staff College, India, in (1973) and the United States Army War College in 1961 save for his WASC result.

When the issue of President Buhari school certificate came to the fore prior to the 2015 Presidential Election, it became public knowledge that he had deposed via an affidavit, saying:

“All my academic qualification documents as filled in my Presidential form APC/001/2015 are currently with the Secretary of the Military Board as of the time of this affidavit.”

In a statement issued on October 26, the National Publicity Secretary of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Kola Ologbondiyan, called on President Buhari to to fulfil his obligation like other presidential candidates, instead of bugging the commission with affidavits by presenting his academic documents.

“The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) charges President Muhammadu Buhari to show proof of his vaunted integrity by presenting his academic documents, if he has any, to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and put to an end his certificate saga. The PDP also urges President Buhari to fulfil his obligation like other presidential candidates, instead of bugging the commission with affidavits.” (Kola Ologbondiyan)
