INEC Bans Use Of Recording Devices In Polling Units

Unic Press UK: The Nigerian electoral body, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has imposed a limited ban on the use of mobile phones, cameras and other kinds of recording devices in polling units, claiming that their decision would mitigate vote buying/selling during the forthcoming gubernatorial election in Osun state, South West of Nigeria.

Speaking today in Osogbo, the capital city Osun state, the INEC Chairman, Mahmood Yakubu, who initially disclosed the new measure last week in Abuja, said that voters’ may use recording devices at the polling units, but that the Commission would not tolerate voters’ attending polling booths with recording devices to capture images of their thumbed ballot paper.

Osun state gubernatorial election will hold on Saturday, the September 22, 2018.
