Syria Has Sovereign Right To Remove Terrorists From Syrian Territory: Syrian UN Envoy

Unic Press UK: The Syrian government Permanent Representative at the United Nations, Bashar al-Jaafari, said Friday during a session of the Security Council that Syria has a sovereign right under international law, the United Nations Charter, and Security Council resolutions to remove terrorists from any part of the country, including Idlib – the current main domain of armed Islamic extremists and terrorist groups on the Syrian soil.

Bashar al-Jaafari submission are in response to the UN claims that civilians are the potential victims of any military action. The UN had estimated that there are circa 3,000,000 people in Idlib; and half of this figure represents those displaced by the civil war in other parts of the country.

In his remark, the United Nations Syrian Envoy, Staffan de Mistura, said: “The dangers are profound that any battle for Idlib could be, would be, a horrific and bloody battle. Civilians are its potential victims, and there are ever-present dangers in the case of a full-scale assault of incidents, rapid escalations, involving regional and international players. The Security Council cannot accept that the civilians of Idlib must face this type of fate. Efforts to combat terrorism do not supersede obligations under international law in the moral conscience of humanity. We must put the sanctity of human civilian life above everything else.”

The Islamic Republic of Iran and the Russian Federation claim to be committed to removing terrorists from Syrian soil. “We have to realize that only the destruction of the terrorists, a military victory against them, can ensure stability and peace in the future in Syria and not only in that country,” the Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said.

The Russian President Vladimir Putin is of the opinion that removing extremists from Syria’s Idlib province is the primary goal, saying “our common absolute priority lies in the total elimination of terrorists in Syria,” following a meeting in Tehran between him, the Turkish President and the Iranian President.
