Official Visit To Nigeria: PDP Calls On British PM To Caution Nigerian Govt.

Unic Press UK: One of the opposition parties in Nigeria, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), said yesterday that the British Prime Minister Theresa May oncoming official visit provides an opportunity for the august visitor to have first-hand observation and experience of the dismal conditions of Nigeria.

In a press statement ‘PDP Sets Agenda For May On Visit To Nigeria’ Tuesday, the National Publicity Secretary of the party Kola Ologbondiyan denounced the ruling party and the Nigeria President Muhammadu Buhari, accusing the ruling party of violent attacks on the legislative arm of government, disrespecting the rule of law, extra-judicial killings, monumental corruption in the light of the recent audit report that ₦4 trillion (£8.6 billion) oil proceeds was not remitted to State coffers by a ministry under Buhari supervision.

Excerpt of the PDP press statement reads:

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) urges the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Theresa May, to use her state visit to Nigeria to uncover the dismal state of our nation…

“The party also calls on the British leader not to allow the Buhari Presidency to confine her to the parlours of the Presidential Villa, but to insist on visiting other parts of the nation to enable her directly appreciate the level of lies and false performance indices the Federal Government has been dishing out to the world.

“The PDP further charges the British Prime Minister, as a parliamentarian, to take the Buhari Presidency to task on its unabated interferences and violent attacks on the institution of the National Assembly…

“The PDP also wants the British leader to task President Buhari on his widely condemned stand against the supremacy of the rule of law in addition to records of violation of human rights in Nigeria… The British leader should also elicit discussions with the President on the recent report by Price Waterhouse Cooper showing humongous corruption in his administration…

The British Prime Minister Theresa May is on a three-day official visit to African countries. South Africa on Tuesday, the 28th August, then Nigeria on Wednesday, the 29th and Kenya on the 30th.
