U.S. Sanctions: Turkey To Retaliate, Freeze Assets Of 2 U.S. Nationals

Unic Press UK: Turkey government has reacted to the sanctions imposed on two of its citizens by the United States government.

Speaking at ruling Justice and Development (AK) Party’s Women Branch congress in Ankara, the President of the Republic of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan said:

“I am instructing my friends today. We will freeze assets, if there are any, of the U.S. justice and interior secretaries in Turkey,” the Anadolu Agency reports.

Last week, the U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) sanctioned Turkey’s Minister of Justice Abdulhamit Gul and Minister of Interior Suleyman Soylu for the arrest and detention of Pastor Andrew Brunson since October 2016.

The sanctions imposed on both men are such that their property, or interest in property, within U.S. jurisdiction is now blocked, and all U.S. persons are prohibited from engaging in transactions with them.
