Unic Press UK: Judge Stephen Pam of the Federal High Court, Abuja, has issued an order compelling the Nigerian Police Force to arrest the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Mahmood Yakubu.
The order follows Yakubu deliberate violation of several orders by which he was summoned to appear before the court over his alleged refusal to recognize some of the officials of the state chapter of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) despite a ruling of the Supreme Court of Nigeria.
Judge Pam said: “It is sad that the contemnor and his counsel, a senior lawyer, have chosen not to obey the orders of this court in respect of this contempt charge. The contempt of the contemnor to this court can no longer be tolerated and it should not be allowed to fester,” the News Agency of Nigeria reports.
