Syrian Arab Army Combats Terrorism In Al-Hajar Al-Aswad

Unic Press UK: The Syrian Arab Army is making progress with its military operation in al-Hajar al-Aswad district, the Syrian Arab News Agency reported Friday.

The military operations included precision air strikes on terrorist strongholds in the northern part of al-Hajar al-Aswad, thereby inflicting heavy losses on armed terrorists.

The Syrian Arab Army has virtually surrounded the terrorist locations in the north of al-Hajar al-Aswad, the news agency also reported.

About the Syrian Conflict

The crisis that metamorphosed into a Syrian civil war started in March 2011, following the government’s crackdown on protesters who voiced support for democracy.

Within a period of five years, this armed conflict caused the death of circa 250,000 people, almost 8 million internally displaced, and 4 million refugees, said the Amnesty International on January 2016.

It’s a convoluted, multi-sided armed conflict fought primarily between the Syrian forces under the control of the Syrian government and its allies, and various forces [state and non-state actors] opposing the Syrian government. Jihad terrorists group, including Daesh (Islamic State) is also waged a war on the Syrian government, controlling of a part of Syria’s territory until recently.

The Russian Federation, the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Republic of Turkey are collaborating, providing measured support for the Syrian government, while the United States leads a coalition attacking terrorists and seemingly seeking regime change in Syria.

The war has a geopolitical angle. Also, there is a ‘sectarian’ strand, pitching the country’s Sunni Muslim majority against the Shia Muslim sect.
