Thugs Invade Nigerian Senate During Plenary, Snatch Mace

Unic Press UK: Nigerian Senate was invaded Wednesday by thugs suspected to be acting at the instance of a suspended Senator of the Republic, Ovie Omo-Agege (APC – Delta Central). The invasion caused pandemonium in the Senate chambers as the mace, the upper house symbol of authority, was forcefully taken away by thugs.

On the recommendation of the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions, the Nigerian Senate had, on Thursday the 12th April 2018, suspended Ovie Omo-Agege – a notable supporter of President Muhammadu Buhari – for 90 legislative days after the‘contemptuous’ remarks he made during the upper chamber deliberations on amending the Electoral Act.

The Senate President Bukola Saraki is currently overseas on an official engagement. The Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, who was presiding over the Senate plenary at the time of the incident, has met with Vice President Yemi Osinbajo over the incident.
