Oscar Pistorius Six-Year Sentence For Murder ‘Shockingly Lenient’ – Court

Unic Press UK: South Africa’s Supreme Court of Appeal (SCA) ruled Friday that the jail term imposed on Oscar Pistorius in 2016 by the Pretoria High Court, with relation to the murder of Reeva Steenkamp, is shockingly lenient.

The court ruled that the appropriate sentence for Pistorius is 13 years and five months, not six years. In effect, the SCA has nullified the judgement of the lower court.

Today’s ruling by the SCA comes after the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) approached the court to appeal against Pistorius’ sentence‚ which it argued, was “shockingly low”, reports Sowetan, an English-language South African daily newspaper.
