Unic Press UK: Senator John McCain, R-Arizona, said Friday that he cannot align with the forces working to repeal/replace the Affordable Care Act with the proposed Graham-Cassidy healthcare bill, thereby hitting a decisive blow on President Trump’s plans for a new healthcare system.
“I cannot in good conscience vote for the Graham-Cassidy proposal. I believe we could do better working together, Republicans and Democrats, and have not yet really tried… I take no pleasure in announcing my opposition”, he said.
I cannot in good conscience vote for Graham-Cassidy. A bill impacting so many lives deserves a bipartisan approach. https://t.co/2sDjhw6Era pic.twitter.com/30OWezQpLg

On July 28, the United States Senate, the upper chamber of the United States Congress, in a vote, 49-51, declined to repeal Obamacare, Barack Obama’s signature Healthcare Act. In a vote that seem best described as dramatic, three Republican senators Susan Collins, John McCain and Lisa Murkowski coalesced with the Democrats, voting against the measures to repeal/replace the Affordable Care Act, popularly called Obamacare. McCain said:
“From the beginning, I have believed that Obamacare should be repealed and replaced with a solution that increases competition, lowers costs, and improves care for the American people. The so-called ‘skinny repeal’ amendment the Senate voted on today would not accomplish those goals. We must now return to the correct way of legislating and send the bill back to committee, hold hearings, receive input from both sides of aisle, heed the recommendations of nation’s governors, and produce a bill that finally delivers affordable health care for the American people.” (John McCain: 28 July 2017)
