Yemi Osinbajo Suspends Promotion Of Police Officers Over Irregularities

Unic Press UK: Nigeria’s acting president, Yemi Osinbajo has directed the Police Service Commission to suspend the promotion of Police Officers until further notice.

The information gathered by Unic Press UK revealed that Osinbajo acted on the petitions from several individuals and a non-governmental organisation, who had reached out to his office complaining that the Police High Command and the Police Service Commission (PSC) had ‘conspired’ to favor some individuals during the promotion exercise.

The Independent Newspaper, which is based in Nigeria, said that an officer who confided in it, welcomed the decision of the acting President Yemi Osinbajo, saying that:

“special promotion of junior DCPs to the rank of CPs by the authorities in Abuja is being done based on ethnic and religious considerations and not according to merit or seniority in the force… Selective promotion favoured mainly officers from a particular religion and ethnic group, a tendency he said is destroying the conventional seniority procedure of promoting officers and men in the Nigeria police based on their performance and seniority.”
