U.S. Condemn North Korea’s ICBM Test, Threaten Military Action

Unic Press UK: The United States strongly condemned Tuesday’s launch of an Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) by North Korea.

The ICBM missile, Hwasong-14 flew 933 kilometers (579.7 miles) within 39 minutes, reached an altitude of 2,802 kilometers (1,741 miles), after a launch that shocked the United States. This ICBM was a previously unknown type to the U.S. military, the Pentagon said.

In a press statement issued on Tuesday, the U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, described the missile test as:

“a new escalation of the threat to the United States, our allies and partners, the region, and the world.”

Tillerson called for a global response to the threat from North Korea, saying:

“any country that hosts North Korean guest workers, provides any economic or military benefits, or fails to fully implement UN Security Council resolutions is aiding and abetting a dangerous regime. All nations should publicly demonstrate to North Korea that there are consequences to their pursuit of nuclear weapons. We intend to bring North Korea’s provocative action before the UN Security Council and enact stronger measures to hold the DPRK accountable.”

The United States ambassador to the United Nations, Nikki Haley today [Wednesday] warned that the U.S. might take military action against North Korea. She said:

“The US is prepared to use the full range of our capabilities to defend ourselves and our allies. One of our capabilities lies with our considerable military forces. We will use them if we must, but we prefer not to have to go in that direction.”

Trump was again on Twitter, berating the North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un.

North Korea remains unequivocal over its ambition to be a major nuclear power, capable of hitting the U.S. with a barrage of nuclear weapons. The country had said several times that its nuclear/missile programs are non-negotiable in the light of what it had described as the hostile policy of the U.S. and its allies.
