Godswill Akpabio Quizzed [Not Arrested] By EFCC

ABUJA, Federal Republic of Nigeria. Ex-Governor of Akwa Ibom state and Senate minority leader Godswill Akpabio has refuted the stories being peddled by a section of the Nigerian media that he had been arrested by the Economic Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Several news organizations [Unic Press excluded] have published that Akpabio was arrested by EFCC operatives at about 5.20 pm on Friday on allegations that he mismanaged N101bn during his tenure as Akwa Ibom state governor.

In the course of a brief investigation, we were able to ascertain that Akpabio was not arrested given several tweets on his twitter account.

On Friday, circa the time several media outfit were spreading news that he was in EFCC custody, some of the tweets via Akpabio’s twitter handle @SenAkpabio, reads:

“Senator Akpabio was never arrested. He simply obliged an invitation to come & answer some questions at the EFCC.”

“Senator Akpabio was called from EFCC to come for explanations & he drove there himself 50 mins later so why all the news of arrest?”

“Senator Akpabio has nothing to hide that’s why he walked into EFCC himself this evening to answer questions about his tenure in Akwa Ibom.”

“H.E Senator Akpabio is back to the house. We want to reaffirm that he has nothing whatsoever to hide about his term in office in Akwa Ibom.”
