Unic Press UK: The Nigerian army seems to accept the shootings at violent protesters as an appropriate response to those who throw stones and rocks at its personnel; and have made a reference to a video clip of the United States President Donald Trump, the BBC News reported Friday, citing a spokesman for the Nigerian army.
A few days’ ago, Trump had said: “. . . Anybody throwing stones, rocks like they did to Mexico and the Mexico military and the Mexico police where they badly hurt police and soldiers of Mexico, we would consider that a firearm because there is no much difference when you get hit in the face with a rock. . .” in response to a journalist’s question on migrants throwing stones.
The position of Trump is in contrast to what the U.S. embassy in Abuja, Nigeria, has said.
We urge Government of Nigeria authorities to conduct a thorough investigation of the events and to take appropriate action to hold accountable those responsible for violations of Nigerian law.
