Address Me As Just Muhammadu Buhari After May 29, 2015 — Buhari

ABUJA, Federal Republic of Nigeria. The President-elect, Muhammadu Buhari, has told Nigerians that he will not want to be addressed with his military title after his swearing in on May 29, 2015.

He has, therefore, said he would just want to be called ‘Muhammadu Buhari, President, Commander in chief of the Armed Forces, Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Similarly, the vice president elect, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, has equally said he would be addressed as ‘Prof Yemi Osinbajo, Vice President, Federal Republic of Nigeria.’

The retired army general seeks to be regarded with the official title reserved for Nigeria’s president while Osinbajo seeks to be described with his academic title of professor.

“From May 29, 2015 the President-elect and Vice-President-elect are to be respectively known and addressed as Muhammadu Buhari, President, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Federal Republic of Nigeria and Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, SAN, Vice President, Federal Republic of Nigeria,” Garba Shehu, the head of the Directorate of Media & Publicity of Buhari’s campaign organisation said in a statement.

The statement also displayed the official portrait of the two men who will be sworn-in as Nigeria’s President and Vice President on May 29.
