PDP Crisis: More State Governors Flay Chairman Mu’azu For Defeat

MINNA, Federal Republic of Nigeria. The governors of Jigawa State and Niger State, Sule Lamido; and Dr. Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu, respectively, on Thursday blamed the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Chairman, Adamu Mu’azu, for the party’s loss to the opposition, All Progressives Congress (APC), at last general election.

They also called on the Mu’azu led National Working Committee (NWC) of the PDP to throw in the towel for leading the party to a ‘disastrous defeat’ in the general elections.

The governors expressed their view during the commissioning of the multi-billion naira Naira Shiroro bridge in Niger State.

On the PDP’s crisis, Lamido said that he was not happy the way and manner Mu’azu handled the party, which he said, accounted for the overwhelming defeat it suffered during the last polls.

“We have both agreed [Lamido and Aliyu] not to leave PDP. We dey kampe for PDP, we dey shelele for PDP”, the governors said as they argued that the loss of the Presidential election and many state governors should be a lesson to everyone, stressing, ‘‘After 16 years of being in power we should not be annoyed, we should not show unfaithfulness.’’

But Aliyu also said that the defeat of PDP should not be viewed as a rejection of any individual(s) but a referendum on the performance of the party in the areas of management of the economy and the security.

Aliyu explained that the Northern part of the country which felt disenchanted by the inability of the Federal Government to find solution to the activities of the radical Islamic sect, Boko-Haram, voted against PDP because the people felt the party has not done enough for the protection of their lives and property.

Lamido and Aliyu however challenged the President-elect, General Muhammadu Buhari to stop making excuses on how to fulfill his electioneering campaign promises to Nigerians because, ‘we will hold him accountable if he fails to perform’’.
