ATHENS, Greece [Hellenic Republic]. Syriza party (Coalition of the Radical Left) emerged winner on Greece’s general election. The party took 36pc of the votes.
At 40yo, Alexis Tsipras, Syriza leader, became the youngest prime minister of Greece in 150 years.
On his party’s decisive victory day, Tsipras said: “…the people of Greece wrote history.”
World markets foresee a bout extreme pressure and volatility as the outcome of Greece election represents strong disagreement of the people of Greece on proposals and entire financial doctrine put across by Berlin and Brussels. Besides, Syriza’s anti-austerity inclination is seen as a ‘taboo’ by majority of Eurozone leaders.
There are strong indications that Greece will not leave the Eurozone given a recent poll which illustrated that over 70pc of Greeks were in full support of a single currency. However, Syriza’s anti-austerity posturing implies that debt default could be imminent.
Syriza yriza (Coalition of the Radical Left) was formed in 2004 as an alliance, umbrella group. In 2012, it became the second largest party in the Greek parliament and the foremost opposition party. Syriza’s “four pillars of national reconstruction plan” are:
1. Confronting the humanitarian crisis.
2. Restarting the economy and promoting tax justice.
3. Regaining employment.
4. Transforming the political system to deepen democracy.
