Unic Press UK: The Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) is facing a major leadership crisis over who is the head of the party after two different courts issued contrasting orders.
In Lagos, Judge Ibrahim Buba of the Federal High Court has ruled that the caretaker committee constituted by the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) on Saturday, the 21st May, is illegal. The Judge ordered the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to restrict all members of the so-called caretaker committee from taking over the affairs of the PDP.
In Port Harcourt, Judge A M Liman ruled that Ali Modu Sheriff is not the chairman of the PDP. The Judge directed that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) should accord recognition to the caretaker committee under the leadership of former Kaduna State Governor, Ahmed Makarfi, as inaugurated on Saturday, the 21st May 2016.
There seem to be deep acrimony and suspicion among the contending forces despite peace-making moves that have been initiated by a number of some PDP chieftain.
At this moment, the leadership issue of the PDP is still a matter in the court of law.
