ABUJA, Federal Republic of Nigeria. (Unic Press UK) — The Supreme Court of Nigeria, today, Wednesday 27 January 2016, ruled that the election of Nyesom Wike as the governor of Rivers state was proper.

Judge Kudirat Kekere-Ekun who read the judgment held that the appeal filed by Wike against the ruling of the Court of Appeal was meritorious.

Kekere-Ekun said: “I find and hold that this appeal is meritorious and it is allowed. The judgement of the lower court delivered on the 16th of November 2015 and the judgment of the tribunal delivered on 24th October 2015 are hereby set aside… “The petition of the petitioners is dismissed. The return of Nyesom Wike as governor of Rivers State by the Independent National Electoral Commission is restored.”

The Supreme Court will on 12 February 2016, give full details on why and how they reached their judgment.

Wike, the gubernatorial candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidate on 11 April 2015 election in Rivers State, had filed an appeal against the ruling of the Appeal Court that nullified his election.
