Alleged Destruction Of Statement: Metuh Granted Bail

ABUJA, Federal Republic of Nigeria. (Unic Press UK) — The National Publicity Secretary of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Olisa Metuh, has been granted bail by a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, in respect of the charges on the destruction of statement.

Metuh, who is on the trial for destroying the statement he made during interrogation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), was granted him bail in the sum of N300 million with two sureties in like sum by Justice Ishaq Bello of the Federal High Court.

The charge brought against Metuh, included: “Olisa Metuh on the 5th day of January 2016 in Abuja within the jurisdiction of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory destroyed a document, to wit: a statement made under caution to investigators/operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on the 5th of January 2016, with the intention of preventing the same from being produced or used as evidence in a court of law.”

Besides the case on destruction of statement, Metuh is facing a seven-count charge of criminal breach of trust, corruption and money laundering, before Justice Obong Abang of a Federal High Court in Abuja. A part of the seven-count charge reads:

“That you, Olisa Metuh, and Destra Investments Limited on December 4, 2014, did transfer the sum of N21,776,000 being part of the sum of N400m, which directly represented the unlawful activity of Colonel Mohammed Sambo Dasuki, the then National Security Adviser, (to wit: breach of trust and corruption), to Chief Tony Anenih and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 15(2) (b) of the Money Laundering (Prohibition) Act, 2011 (as amended in 2012 and punishable under section 15(3) of the same Act.”

Metuh is presently confined at Kuje prison in Abuja.
