YENAGOA, Federal Republic of Nigeria. (Unic Press UK) — The All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Chief Timipre Sylva, had rejected the results announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), which declared the candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) as winner.
Sylva has alleged that there was a conspiracy between the PDP and INEC; and that the results did not reflect the wishes of the people.
INEC said that Seriake Dickson won the election after the Southern Ijaw results was announced having received 134,998 votes to defeat his main rival Temipre Sylva of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who received only 86,852 votes.
The gubernatorial election in Bayelsa state was initially held on 5 December 2015, but the results in Southern Ijaw was cancelled on 7 December 2015 by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) due to “widespread violence, ballot box snatching and abduction of electoral official”. Sequel to the cancellation on 7 December, INEC held a consultative meeting with leaders of political parties, and they all agreed that the election in Southern Ijaw and other Polling Units be held on Saturday, 9 January 2016.
