KATSINA, Federal Republic of Nigeria. The Comptroller General of Customs, Col. Hameed Ali, has likened activities of smugglers in the country to acts of treason.
Ali, who was speaking yesterday while in Katsina state on official assignment, said those engaged in smuggling were committing crimes that were tantamount to betraying the country.
He warned those engaged in the act of smuggling to desist from doing same or face the full wrath of the law.
The CGC said Customs under his tenure would not relent in its efforts to bring the menace of smuggling to its knees, as anyone caught would have himself to blame.
“To be specific, if we find any Katsina state citizen in the act, he will be dealt with ruthlessly, as the customs will no longer be business as usual.”
He however called for support and cooperation from the state government towards educating communities along border areas against the menace of smuggling.
