Enugu Monarch, 3 Others Murdered In Cold Blood

ENUGU, Federal Republic of Nigeria. The traditional ruler of Nkerefi in Nkanu-East Local Government Area of Enugu State, Igwe Onuoha Ejike, has been murdered in cold blood along with three other persons by unknown gunmen.

Reports from the area said that the gunmen invaded the residence of the paramount ruler at Mgbanaocha, Nkerefi community in the early hours of Saturday with guns and matchets, killing the royal father instantly.

The other three victims, whose names were given as Udeme Uzor, Evelyn Udeme Uzor and Daniel Ogbu, also received several matchet cuts on their bodies as well as necks before they died.

As of the time of going to press, there was no information as to the reason for the homicide but the State Police Public Relations Officer; Ebere Amarizu, while confirming the story, described the incident as unfortunate.

Amarizu said, “We have vowed to bring the perpetrators to book. The command is working relentlessly to ensure that those behind the alleged murder are unmasked and brought to book.

“Full scale investigations have commenced into the incident as dead bodies of the deceased persons have been deposited at Eastern Nigeria Medical Center Enugu, and the General Hospital Agbani, respectively,” he said.

He further said the police had increased security surveillance in the area to avoid escalation of violence by the people while trying to unmask the perpetrators themselves.
