ABUJA, Federal Republic Of Nigeria. Nigeria Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, has given reasons President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday ordered the dissolution of the of the Board of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).
Writing in his Twitter handle, he explained that the removal of the board was as a result of the irregularities discovered by the Federal Government.
He said the board, which was appointed by former President Goodluck Jonathan, in July 2012 would soon be reconstituted.
“Due to irregularities discovered from our findings, the NNPC board is hereby dismissed with immediate effect, replacements to follow suit,” he wrote.
The dissolution of the board had initially been announced in a statement signed by Haruna Imrana, Director of Communications for the Head of Service of the Federation, saying that President Buhari had ordered the dissolution with immediate effect.
According to the statement, the directive to that effect was conveyed in a letter signed on Friday, June 26, 2015 by the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mr. Danladi Kifasi.
In the letter, President Buhari also expressed gratitude to members of the dissolved board for their services to the nation.
The defunct Board was made up former Minister of Petroleum Resources Diezani Alison Madueke as Chairman while the members were the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Finance; Group Managing Director, NNPC, Alhaji Abdullahi Bukar; Former Head of Service, Mr. Steven Oronsaye; Professor Olusegun Okunnu, Mr. Daniel Wadzani, Mr. Bernard O.N. Otti (Group Executive Director, Finance & Accounts), Dr. Peter S. Nmadu (Group Executive Director, Corporate Services).
