ENUGU, Federal Republic of Nigeria. Smarting from his return as Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, predicted on Saturday that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will return to power at the centre in 2019. Power, he says, is theirs come that year.
Ekweremadu made this prediction at his Enugu residence where he hosted hundreds of his supporters who received him at Akanu Ibiam Airport, Enugu yesterday.
The Deputy Senate President, however, disclosed that PDP was ready to work with President Muhamadu Buhari as long his party, All Progressives Congress (APC) stop chasing shadows in the National Assembly.
“We are ready to work with APC and Buhari if they want to work. But if they are interested in fighting the National Assembly, we will help them.”
“If they want to work for the poor, we will help them. We will help them to reduce corruption and improve security to ensure a better Nigeria. But, so long as they want to chase shadows, we will help them. For us in PDP, we have four years to come back to power because we are involved” Ekweremadu said.
He described Senate President, Bukola Saraki, as a gentleman who believes in Nigeria, cosmopolitan and believes that every part of Nigeria must have a sense of belonging.
Ekweremadu maintained that Ndigbo have no apologies for voting for PDP in 2015, stressing that if another opportunity beckons, they would still vote the same way.
He explained that it was apprehension in the South-East and South-South after the election that the two sister regions would be victimized for voting PDP that those of them in the National Assembly resorted to negotiation to ensure that their people remained in the decision making process in the country.
