BAUCHI, Federal Republic of Nigeria. A Bauchi based political group, New Generation Initiative has called on the red chamber of the National Assembly,to consider electing Senator Bukola Saraki from Kwara state as the next Senate President.
The state Chairman of the group, Comrade Aliyu Ladan while speaking with newsmen at NUJ secretariat Bauchi, said the endorsement of Senator Saraki became necessary considering his vast knowledge in the political circle.
He, Saraki, was not only re-elected to the senate at the time when card reader machine sent most of his colleagues out of the senate who thought that being in the red chamber was a birth right but succeeded in returning Kwara state to APC state.
He stated that Senator Saraki has contributed towards sustaining democracy in the past years.
According to Ladan, what Nigerians expect from the next senate is not the business as usual kind of leadership but they expect a senate that will indeed be seen to be progressive not only in name but indeed.
He said North Central deserves to be offered the senate presidency with Senator Saraki as the man to beat, if merit is the yardstick for measurement under the present progressive dispensation.
“Senator Saraki is one of those who provide not only the senate with intellectual fiber but even the entire progressive circle in the country, he is young, well-educated and has demonstrated capability for good leadership first as Governor and later as a senator.
From 1999 -2007 Nasarawa and Plateau states had the opportunity of producing the Deputy Senate President first by Senator Haruna Abubakar and later Senator Nasiru Mantu. From 2007 to date Benue got the slot of the Senate President under David Mark, now that APC has zoned it to North Central, nobody deserves it than Senator Saraki” he said
