Man, 25yo, Bags 6 Months Jail Term For Acquiring Multiple PVCs

YELWA, Federal Republic of Nigeria. A Yelwa Magistrate’s court in Bauchi, last week, sentenced a 25-year-old man, Ya’u Ismaila, to six months imprisonment for acquiring multiple Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).

According to the First Information Report (FIR) tendered before the court by police prosecutor, Inspector Zakka Ayi, Ismaila was arrested at a stop-and -search military check point on March 28, 2015, at 12 p.m at Rafin Makaranta, on Ningi Road, Bauchi with three different PVCs bearing three different names.

The PVCs belonged to the convict, a resident of Tsohon Makabarta, Jahun in Bauchi metropolis, who got them using different names, but his picture was on them.

The prosecutor informed the court that the PVCs bore the names: Yau Ismail, Koyabi Kela Bason and Ismail Koyabi, adding that Ismaila registered at Fadanan Bayak Jahun and Jaja quarters with his photograph appearing on the voter’s cards.

According to Inspector Ayi, the offence committed by Ismaila was contrary to Section 129 (c) and (d) of the Electoral Act 2010 (as amended), which the accused person pleaded guilty.

Ruling on the matter, Magistrate Kasimu M. Mohammed, stated that for admitting to the charges brought against him without wasting the time of the court, he would be lenient to the accused.
