U.S. Election 2020: Catholic Bishop Urges American People To Protect/Defend The Right To Life

Unic Press UK: The Catholic Bishop of the Diocese of Kansas City, His Lordship Most Reverend James V. Johnston, Jr., is urging the American people to vote into office candidates who are pro-life and anti-abortion.

In a letter dated 14 September 2020, Bishop James V. Johnston Jr., a Knight of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem and a recipient of the Citizens Award for Bravery from the U.S. Department of the Interior, said:

Every Catholic voter “would do well to weigh a candidate’s position on each of these essential God-given rights that government has a duty to protect, beginning with the right to life,” the ABC News reports.

A few weeks ago, the Catholic Bishop of Pittsburgh, His Lordship Most Reverend David Zubik advised Catholics to vote with their conscience based on the teachings of the Catholic Church. Bishop Zubik seems to be sending another subtle reminder to Americans that the position of the Catholic Church on abortion is of “preeminent priority” as inked by the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops.

The Catholic Church has a firm, unwavering position on the sanctity of human life, from the time of conception until natural death. During a weekly audience in St Peter’s Square on 10 October 2018, the leader of the Catholic Church, Pope Francis, said:

Abortion could be compared to “hiring a hitman to resolve a problem”.

It is not right to take a human life, Pope Francis added. An act that suppresses an innocent and helpless life as it blossoms is not therapeutic, not civil, and not humane, Pope Francis said.
