Nigerian Senate Says Armed Forces Chiefs Should Resign Over Widespread Insecurity

Unic Press UK: The Nigerian Senate has passed a resolution, demanding immediate resignation of the service chiefs, who oversee the armed forces, Army, Air Force, Navy, Police and so on.

Nigeria is ranked 3rd on the 2019 Global Terrorism Index after Afghanistan, Iraq. So  the terrifying situation in the country is worse than war-torn states’ like Syria, Libya, South Sudan, Cameroon, Yemen.

So in a response to a motion tabled during a plenary session Tuesday by Senator Ali Ndume (APC – Borno South) on the deafening scale of attack/fatalities suffered by the Nigerian public, including the killing of members of the Nigerian Army and the other security agencies, the Senate therefore RESOLVED to:

  • Urge the Federal Government to urgently intensify the provision of modern equipment to enhance the operational capabilities of our armed forces
  • Mandate the Joint Committees on Army, Navy, Air Force, Police, Defence, and Interior to receive briefings on the state of affairs of the services in this regard; and
  • Mandate the Service Chiefs to step aside for new ones to come in.
