Unic Press UK: Nigeria’s House of Representatives moves to halt the evacuation of almajiris across borders, urging the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 and state governors’ to do the needful.
At plenary Tuesday, the House, which is the lower chamber of the country’s bicameral legislative body, made this decision following a motion moved by Hon. Aishatu Jibril Dukku (APC – Dukku/Nafada) on the plight of almajiris, who, apparently being rejected in their states’ of origin, are now being furtively moved from the North to other locations in the Southern region in a manner that could escalate the spread of COVID-19.
Rep. Dukku stated that Governors under the aegis of the Northern Governor’s forum had collectively decided to ban the almajiri, she expresses concern that the mass movement is capable of further spreading #COVID19 as the means of transport of the kids are cramped & inhuman. pic.twitter.com/PGkuAd6Lfy
