[Video] Near Miss As Russian And U.S. Warships Come Close In Arabian Sea

Unic Press UK: The United States Navy said Friday that its destroyer, the USS Farragut (DDG 99), was “aggressively approached” by a Russian Navy ship in the Arabian Sea.

The statement by the U.S. Navy added that the USS Farragut sounded five short blasts in line with the international maritime signal for danger to avoid a collision.

“Farragut sounded five short blasts, the international maritime signal for danger of a collision, and requested the Russian ship alter course in accordance with international rules of the road. The Russian ship initially refused but ultimately altered course and the two ships opened distance from one another. While the Russian ship took action, the initial delay in complying with international rules while it was making an aggressive approach increased the risk of collision.”

The Russian Ministry of Defense has denied the allegations by the US Navy, saying that the US vessel broke the Convention on the International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea, 1972 (COLREGs).
