Iran Thwarts Very Big Organized Cyber Attack: Info Minister

11 December 2019. Press TV: Iran says it has recently foiled a major “organized” cyber attack against the country’s e-government infrastructure.

Speaking on the sidelines of a weekly cabinet session on Wednesday, Information Minister Mohammad Javad Azari Jahromi described the cyber attack as “very big.”

He added that the attack targeting the country’s “e-government infrastructure” was identified and thwarted by the country’s “security shield.”

The Iranian minister said he could not give any further details for the time being, adding that work was underway to extract different dimensions of the attack.

Back in June, Jahromi reported an unsuccessful American cyber attack against the country’s missile control system.

“The media ask whether the alleged cyber attacks against Iran did take place,” Jahromi said in a tweet on June 24.

“They try hard, but they have yet to carry out a successful attack,” he added.

The remarks came a few days after American outlets claimed that the United States had targeted computer systems that control Iranian rocket and missile launchers.

In OctoberGholamreza Jalali, the head of Iran’s Civil Defense Organization which is in charge of cyber security, said the country was taking robust security measures to protect its vital infrastructure in the face of cyber attacks.

Iran, he added, is also taking legal action against the US over repeated cyber attacks and threats.
