Nigerian Senate Passes 2020 Appropriation Bill

Unic Press UK: The upper chamber of Nigeria’s legislature, the Senate has passed the Appropriation Bill 2020, raising it to ₦10.594 trillion from the initial ₦10.33 trillion presented by the executive arm of government.

In his remarks after the Bill was read a third time and passed , the Nigerian Senate president, Ahmad Ibrahim Lawan (APC – Yobe North Senatorial District) said:

“This could not have been possible without the efforts all of you have put. When we came in, all of us approved our legislative agenda which was to ensure we take back our budget cycle to a cycle that could easily be defined and to something that could easily be bought into. Today we have been able to achieve this. I must give members of the 9th  the credit. Let me also commend the executive arm of government. We pray that the executive is able to implement the budget fully…  I want to congratulate all of us here and I hope we continue to work together as colleagues to ensure the 2020 budget is fully implemented.”

It was on Tuesday, 8 October 2019 that the Nigerian president, His Excellency, Muhammadu Buhari presented his 2020 Budget Speech “Budget of Sustaining Growth and Job Creation” of ₦10.33trn at the Joint Session of the National Assembly.
