No-Deal Brexit Preparation Is Top Priority – PM Boris Johnson

Unic Press UK: The UK Prime Minister, Boris Johnson wrote Friday to all government employees making it clearer that preparing for a no-deal Brexit is his administration’s top priority, Reuters reports.

“I would very much prefer to leave with a deal – one that must abolish the anti-democratic Irish backstop, which has unacceptable consequences for our country. But I recognise this may not happen. That is why preparing urgently and rapidly for the possibility of an exit without a deal will be my top priority, and it will be the top priority for the Civil Service too,” said the Prime Minister Johnson in the email sighted by Reuters.

The Prime Minister has been unequivocal on the United Kingdom leaving the European Union on October 31 given his first speech July 24:

“Everyone knows the values that flag represents. It stands for freedom and free speech and habeas corpus and the rule of law, and above all it stands for democracy. And that is why we will come out of the EU on October 31 because in the end Brexit was a fundamental decision by the British people that they wanted their laws made by people that they can elect and they can remove from office and we must now respect that decision and create a new partnership with our European friends – as warm and as close and as affectionate as possible,” the PM said.

Last week, the government had announced that it set aside £2.1 billion as it prepares for whatever happens when it exits the EU on October 31.
