Unic Press UK: The UK Foreign Secretary, Jeremy Hunt has said the reason the British Royal Marines are detaining an Iranian oil tanker – a 330 metre (1,000 feet) Grace 1 vessel – near Gibraltar is connected to the shipping of oil to the Syrian Arab Republic, not the origin of the oil.
Speaking to the BBC News, Hunt said that he spoke Saturday to the Iranian Foreign Minister, Javad Zarif, to clarify that the UK is ready resolve the issue if Iran gives guarantees that the oil tanker isn’t heading to Syria. He also confirmed that he spoke to the Chief Minister of Gibraltar, Fabian Picardo on the same issue.
However, on Friday, a statement from the Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman, Abbas Mousavi, had warned the UK to stay away from a ‘dangerous game.’
“The documents and evidence and the contradictory remarks made by the British all indicate that London’s allegation, legally speaking, is not that significant and noteworthy unless they would want to enter into a dangerous game under the influence of the Americans with no end in sight,” Mousavi said.
