Tory Leadership Contest: Boris Johnson & Jeremy Hunt Will Pitch To 160,000 Party Members

Unic Press UK: As the Tories move closer to choosing a leader for the Conservatives, a former Mayor of London, Mr Boris Johnson received overwhelming support of 160 Members of Parliament (MPs). He won both the 4th and the 5th round of voting today.

At the end of the crucial 5th round of voting on Thursday, Boris Johnson received 160 (51%) of the total votes, defeating both the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, Jeremy Hunt, who came second with 77 votes (24%) and the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, Michael Gove’s 75 votes (24%).

In a brief statement of Twitter, Boris said: “I’m deeply honoured to have secured more than 50 per cent of the vote in the final ballot. Thank you to everyone for your support! I look forward to getting out across the UK and to set out my plan to deliver Brexit, unite our country, and create a brighter future for all of us.”

The contest now moves to another level, where an estimated 160,000 Tory members would vote to choose a Leader of the Conservative Party to replace Theresa May as Prime Minister.
