Iran’s Uranium Enrichment Won’t Stop – Iranian Parliament Speaker

Unic Press UK: The speaker of the Iranian Parliament, Ali Larijani has stated that the Iranian administration would continue enriching Uranium in the face of the U.S. sanctions and the threats of further sanctions as so doing do not violate the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) of 2015.

“Under the JCPOA (the nuclear accord, officially known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action), Iran can produce heavy water… and based on the agreement, we have not carried out anything in violation of it. Therefore we will carry on with enrichment activity. You can either buy it or not,” Larijani stated Saturday.

Larijani’s statement is, perhaps, a response to the U.S. sanctions Friday against Iran exporting enriched uranium.

In a statement Friday https://www.state.gov/r/pa/prs/ps/2019/05/291483.htm# the U.S. Department of State stated that it has “tightened restrictions that impede Iran’s ability to reconstitute its past nuclear weapons program and help prevent Iran from shortening the time it would take to produce fissile material for a nuclear weapon. We are permitting the temporary continuation of certain ongoing nonproliferation projects that constrain Iran’s nuclear activities and that help maintain the nuclear status quo in Iran until we reach a comprehensive deal that resolves Iran’s proliferation threats.”

Iran is permitted to engage in a range of nonproliferation activities a renewable duration of 90 days, the U.S. Department of State added.
