Unic Press UK: The Bayelsa State Government of Nigeria has inaugurated a 10-man Commission of Inquiry on Environmental Degradation to investigate “the environmental, health, socioeconomic, cultural and human damage caused by operations of both local and multinational oil companies.”
The commission of inquiry, which has John Tucker Mugabi Sentamu, a Bishop of the Church of England and the 97th Archbishop of York as its chairman, is required to hold private/public hearing and submit a report within nine months.
The other members of the Commission are the former President of Ghana John Kufour, Baroness Valerie Amos, Prof. Engobo Emeseh, Dr. Anna Zalik, Dr. Kathryn Nwajiaku-Dahou (Secretary), Prof. Roland Hodler and Prof. Michael Watts, Barr. Kemasuode Wodu (legal counsel, a statement Friday from the Bayelsa State Ministry of Information and Orientation reads.
