Clock Switching By An Hour In Spring & Autumn Ends 2021 – EU Parliament

Unic Press UK: The members of the European Parliament (MEPs) voted yesterday to end the practice of adjusting clocks by 1 hour in spring and autumn with effect from 2021, though each member state retains the right to decide on its time zone, the draft law approved by MEPs with 410 in favour and 192 against and 51 abstentions.

It was in February 2018 that the lawmakers’ called on the EU Commission to revisit/assess the extant ‘Directive 2000/84/EC Of The European Parliament And Of The Council  of 19 January 2001 on summer-time arrangements’ and make a proposal for it to be revised. And the assessment “received 4.6 million responses, of which 84% were in favour of ending the clock changes,”

“MEPs also want EU countries and the Commission to coordinate the decisions to ensure that the application of summer time in some countries and winter time in others does not disrupt the internal market. If the Commission finds that the foreseen time arrangements could significantly, and permanently, hamper the proper functioning of the single market, it may submit a proposal to postpone the date of application of the directive by a maximum of 12 months, says the adopted text,” a press release Wednesday by the EU Parliament reads.
