Nigeria General Election 2019: Nigerians Deeply Worried About Delayed Results

Unic Press UK: Nigerians are probably on tenterhooks waiting for the Independent National Electoral Commission to declare the results of the Nigeria General Election 2019, especially the Presidential Election results.

The leading opposition political party People’s Democratic Party (PDP) is claiming that its Presidential Candidate, Atiku Abubakar won the Presidential Election 2019, making reference to the INEC declared results in the hands of its [PDP] polling agents across the country.

The PDP also accused the national authorities of using the security forces to intimidate and harass its party members and INEC officials.

Nigeria General Election 2015 was rated credible, with Goodluck Jonathan conceding defeat cum congratulating the winner Muhammadu Buhari prior to the declaration of the final results. With this in mind, many had hoped that 2019 would mark a consolidation on the good scorecard of 2015. This isn’t the case as widespread violence occurred during and after the election that was held last Saturday, February 23, 2019. Many killed, thugs openly invading polling units and destroying election elections – ballot papers and boxes.

The electoral commission INEC has yet to fix a date for the release of election results. Of course, failing to fully declare the General Election 2019 results early this week might rise further suspicion and widespread tensions.
