Nigeria General Election 2019: Fire Destroys Election Material At INEC Office In Plateau State

Unic Press UK: A fire incident Saturday [February 9] destroyed loads of election material at the Qua’an Pan Local Government office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

In a press statement on Sunday, the electoral commission, INEC said that the items destroyed in its Qua’an Pan office in Plateau State included 5987 Permanent Voters’ Cards (PVCs), 755 ballot boxes, 14 generators, election forms, official stamps, 380 voting cubicles. All the lost items would be replace prior to the general election.

This latest fire outbreak marks the second time within a week, given the recent fire incident of February 2, 2019 at INEC’s office in Isiala Ngwa Local Government Area of Abia State, where 2979 PVCs were destroyed. In the case of Isiala Ngwa fire, the affected PVCs have been reprinted and delivered to INEC office in the area, the electoral commission wrote.

Nigeria General Election 2019 would hold on Saturday, the 16th February 2019, from 08:00 A M (Lagos time).
